Regimen

Posted in Group:

I was wondering if anyone had a different chemo regimen than FOLFOX. I had surgury to remove the tumor in my colon & then FOLFOX chemo. I just wondered what other treatment options were available. I only completed 10 of my 12 treatments because I just couldn't endure the side effects any longer. The worst was a bad taste in my mouth that made everything taste bad so I didn't want to eat.

I don't know where you live but Cancer Centers of America, John's Hopkins and NIH all offer other options. Depending on you stage, a specialized hospital can offer the most advanced treatment options. Many blessings your way.

I have a Cancer Center of America but I don't have insurance & they won't take me. I have stage 3, spread to lymph nodes but no other organs.

let me know how your doing. i am mostly in the dark with most everything, prognosis , progress is not forthcoming from drs but they say it is way to soon to tell anything ,yet. so i am hanging in there

That's all we can do . . . hang in there & hope for the best.

I guess I must have had stage 3c because the cancer spread to 5 of 11 lymph nodes. Your treatment sounds a lot different than mine. I was supposed to take 12 chemo treatments, no radiation. My treatments were scheduled every two weeks but there were times when my counts were too low & I had to postpone a treatment. One time I had to wait 4 weeks between treatments. My treatments consisted of Oxaliplatin & Leucovorin. I was then sent home with a pump of 5FU which I kept for 46 hours & then went back to have the pump taken off. I wondered why I didn't suffer from any side effects in the beginning & they seemed to get progressively worse with each treatment. My oncologist told me that the chemicals build up in your body over time, making the side effects more severe. After the tenth treatment, I was having such bad side effects that I opted not to finish the last two treatments.
I will be having another ct scan in a couple of weeks. I will post my prognosis when I get the results. Hopefully all those nasty cancer cells will be gone!

Best wishes to you rap2956

Kathy
